Rearing Facilities

All of our carp are on-grown in outdoor ponds. Whilst carp can be grown very quickly in re-circulated systems we are very much of the opinion that it is not of benefit to the fish to push them too 'hard'. The ponds are fed by naturally occurring springs around the sites so that we have the first use of the water. This is essential to us, eliminating the risk of pollution, diseases or parasites coming down from upstream or other fisheries.

We understand that high quality fish require pristine water conditions and plenty of space if they are to achieve their full potential on our farm. We want our carp to grow well and without stress while they are with us. With this in mind we stock at levels lower than many other farms ensuring their environment is optimal at all times during the rearing process. Additionally, all our ponds where we produce fish upto C3 age class are covered by anti predator netting to ensure the fish are stress-free whilst onsite.

Due to recent demand we have expanded our fish farms by some 10 acres over the past 12 months to allow us to produce more fish for the market. We are looking at further expansion plans for another separate site of about 6 acres of production ponds within the next 12 months. The new additional ponds are primarily designed for the production of C3 to C5 carp and the largest pond on the site is approximately 4 acres in size. Thankfully due to the expanse of the farmland on which we are based all the new ponds are on site and no fish are reared in 'off-site' ponds that are not directly under our control so we have utmost confidence in ensuring the fishes environment is monitored on a daily basis and conditions are maintained at their optimum throughout the year.

As part of our precise management of the various ponds within our sites we ensure that, when each pond is harvested during the course of the winter, it is drained fully and then sterilised using hydrated lime which disinfects the pond prior to the introduction of any new fish for the following season. When possible we keep the pond drained for as long as possible as the frost and drying action helps in breaking down any silt along with further sterilising the pond.

Pond Liming in Progress

Liming the pond is just one operation to ensure our fish have a quality environment
